Unley Concert Band joined forces with Kensington and Norwood Brass last Saturday for a concert in preparation for the upcoming Australian National Band Championships at St Peters’ Girls School Performing Arts Centre. K & N Brass, under the baton of Philip Paine, opened the concert with a presentation of their A Grade Brass program, including the test work, Harrison’s Dream.
Payneham City Concert Band, conducted by Robert Hower, performed an entertaining set of music as guest artists, including music from the Disney film Frozen, the rousing Radetzky March and Gustav Holst’s First Suite for Military Band.
The patrons and bands then enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea of cakes and other homemade baked goods donated by band members from all three bands.
UCB, conducted by Dr Stephen Boyle, finished the concert with a run of their program for Open A Grade Concert, including the test work, Of Sailors and Whales.
Congratulations go to Sarah Butler who was awarded the South Australian Band Association Award of Merit during the concert for her services to banding both here in metropolitan Adelaide and in the north of SA.
Many thanks to all who assisted in making the concert a success. If you are unable to make the trip to the Apple Isle this Easter, don’t despair. You can watch both contests (A Grade Brass and Concert) via live streaming at brassbanned.com. Be sure to leave us a comment of support! 🙂
