UCB has been busy around metropolitan Adelaide since the band’s Nationals campaign, performing in four separate community events.
On Anzac Day, the band was in full force for the Unley Dawn Service in the early hours of the morning, providing important musical support for the solemn and respected occasion. The band travelled into the city shortly afterwards to march twice in the Anzac Parade through the Adelaide CBD, leading our country’s brave servicemen with stately Kenneth Alford march selections.
On Saturday 4th May, Unley Concert Band volunteered their services for a 30min performance at the beginning of the Relay for Life fundraising event for the Cancer Council, held at the Royal Adelaide Showgrounds. Several members of Unley Concert Band were part of a team ‘Team Tuba Trampling Trembling Tumors’ lead by the 2012 Bandsperson of the Year Jim Warren, participating in this year’s event and the band was proud to be there to support their efforts for such a worthy cause. A big thank you to Joan Warren for offering this opportunity for the band to be involved in the high profile event.
The band also appeared at the Hahndorf Band Festival on Saturday 11th May in the marching and on-stage entertainment contest division against four other worthy opponents. The band played well in both sections, coming only a close second to K & N Spring Gully Brass, with a performance of recognisable tunes such as Henry Mancini’s Waldo Pepper March, a saxophone feature A Night In Tunisia, a selection of ABBA tunes and a lovely rendition of the theme from Cinema Paradiso, featuring oboe soloist Andreas Pretterhofer.
Thank you to all who performed in these events and to our MD Kevin Cameron and Drum Major Jeff Hale for their continued work in developing the public face of UCB in the community.
