A music graduate of the University of Adelaide, Dr Stephen Boyle has held many distinguished roles in the professional and amateur musical world.
Between 1985 and 1998, he was a member of the Band of the South Australian Police, holding the position of bandmaster for five of those years. During this period, he also performed on a casual basis with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra, State Opera Company of South Australia Orchestra, Adelaide Chamber Orchestra, State Theatre Company of SA and Australian Dance Theatre. He has performed primarily as a trombonist, backing artists such as Shirley Bassey, Liberace, Andy Williams, Robert Goulet, Sammy Davis Jr, Jerry Lewis, Debbie Byrne, Jon English, Jackie Love, Tony Hatch and Jackie Trent, Normie Rowe, Rickey May, Darryl Somers and Simon Gallaher.
He has held the position of Musical Director of Radio 5DN/Colonnades Carols by Candlelight on the Lake between 1993-1997. He was a founder and artistic director of the original Adelaide Wind Orchestra in the mid-nineties and has held positions of music director/conductor at the State Music Camp SA, the Adelaide Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the West Australian Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Churchlands Senior High School Wind Ensemble and the City of Brighton Concert Band.
Dr Boyle is currently the Academic Director and Deputy Head of UniSA College.
