Unley Concert Band recently held a spooktacular Halloween cabaret on Friday 30th October at the Goodwood Community Centre. Entitled “Monsters and Magic”, the room was full of draculas, witches, skeletons, a mummy and other ghostly creatures, dressed up for the occasion.
The band played memorable music from the movies such as scores from Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, The Lord of the Rings, Gremlins, Ghostbusters plus other classics such as Thriller and The Eve of War, complete with Vincent Price and Richard Burton narration, respectively. A particular highlight of the evening was the hilarious and clever video presentation made by resident trumpeter Matthew Dorey, to accompany Eric Whitacre’s programmatic work ‘Godzilla Eats Las Vegas’, which was a real hit with the enthusiastic audience.
Many thanks go to Dr Stephen Boyle for expertly leading the band for this performance and to Kate Flint for her organisation of the cabaret. Also thanks go to those members of the band who helped with decorations, raffle prizes, assisted on the night with front of house, set up and transportation of percussion. It was all hands on deck and it was much appreciated by all. Stay tuned for what we have in store for the cabaret in 2016!
The band is now full speed ahead for the rest of the year and also preparing for the National Championships which will be held at home in Adelaide next year for the first time since 2011.
