In July, Unley Concert Band sadly farewelled long-time musical director Dr Kevin Cameron after nearly thirteen years of service to the band.
Kevin has received a sought-after senior teaching position at Geelong Grammar School in Victoria and relocated there in August.
Kevin was appointed Music Director of the band in 2001, four years after the band’s inception, and has been instrumental in developing Unley Concert Band into the successful band it is today. Under Kevin’s baton, the band won its first State Championship in 2002 and has since then dominated the A and B Concert Band divisions at a state level. The band has steadily grown from a National C Grade band in 2004 to a band worthy of competing nationally in A Grade in 2011 & continues to do so to this day.
Kevin’s sense of drive, enthusiasm and highly developed musical skill saw the band develop a comprehensive strategic plan for the future, participate in a range of activities including establishing a regular series of concerts and regular contesting at local, state and national level. Kevin was the primary driving force behind the band’s historic ANZAC tour to the Western Front in 2009 and the tour could not have been undertaken without Kevin’s management & planning.
The members of Unley Concert Band wish Kevin all the best with his new endeavour and thank him for all his outstanding leadership and enormous contributions to the great Double Blues.
