On Saturday 22nd June, Unley Concert Band presented a night of Disney classics to an appreciative cabaret audience at the Dom Polski Centre. The audience came out in droves, many in costume, the room colourful with Disney princesses, Disney villains, cartoon creatures and even a dalmatian!
The audience were treated to a brightly decorated foyer and auditorium, complete with Alice In Wonderland mushrooms, signposts, a 4 foot diameter Cinderella clock, a 4.5m Rapunzel tower, flying carpets and magic mirrors.
The band performed such classic Disney songs as When You Wish Upon A Star from ‘Pinocchio’, Under The Sea from ‘The Little Mermaid’ , Beauty and The Beast featuring a flugel horn solo by Andrew Edgeworth, It’s A Small World, Heigh Ho from ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarves’. UCB visited Aladdin in Agrabah, The Lion King in Pride Rock and Mary Poppins at Number 17 Cherry Tree Lane on our Disney journey.
The band welcomed guest artist Kat Sachse to sing two lovely renditions of When She Loved Me from ‘Toy Story 2’ and Colours of the Wind from ‘Pocahontas’ with the band, plus her own stunning rendition of Part of Your World from ‘The Little Mermaid’.
The band were allowed to show off some technical prowess with performances of the difficult Night On Bald Mountain and Dance of the Hours which featured in ‘Fantasia’.
The audience were treated to a set of famous Disney songs by singer-guitarist Max Garcia Underwood including a blast from the past, the theme from the Disney TV show ‘Duck Tales’!
It was a very successful night for the band, a theme which was always guaranteed to bring out the inner child in all of us.
